Summer Newsletter 2009

Dear Members,

Earlier, in the Spring newsletter I commented on the fact that ‘the patch’ had been extended at it’s Northerly end by Bill & Stan and that we could, perhaps, expect some action by our turbine flyers as a result.

Since then there has been an extension to the West end of the E/W runway and I am delighted to report some impressive turbine flying by both Neil and Mark – with all its "wow" factor for us slower flying members.

Attendances have been good, especially by the mid week fliers, and there has been rather more dry sunny weather than last year, marred only by ‘windy westerlies’ when it has been almost too windy to fly and a big proportion of the electric fliers battery power has been used to avoid being blown away! – there has even been the odd thermal.

We were represented at the Longhorsley meet over the May Bank Holiday weekend, enjoying calmer conditions this time. This was closely followed by the Teesside event and then the Rufforth event where both Neil and I had good flying – entertaining large crowds.

Early June saw our annual BBQ event with good weather and lots of good food laid on by Helen and her catering team who did us proud as usual – pity about the poor attendance by members though.

Unfortunately, I missed the first Scale day as I was house-sitting in Norfolk. Mark and Bill did the judging. Neil won with his Pawnee (Zenoah 62) and Martin Bowles won the best static prize.

Brin has now fixed up a large notice board on the North wall of the clubhouse so let’s be having the photos of your latest creations for display. In addition, several mahogany faced boards have been commissioned to display names of trophy winners and various other items – more detail in the next newsletter.

Diary Dates:

Annual club luncheon – Headlam Hall on Sunday 18th October at 12.15pm – a great success last year. For details and reservations please contact Neil Dixon (01325 463626) or Helen Nicholls (01325 489810) - DON’T MISS IT!

AGM at Hurworth Grange on Tuesday 15th December at 8.00pm. (Note that committee members have to submit nominations before AGM – see notice board for details).

Fly safely and happy landings.

Gordon
